I Watched The New Demon Slayer Movie And...
Over this weekend, I spent $17 to see the new Demon Slayer movie. Was it worth it? The answer to that question is kind of. Personally, I didn’t watch any of the trailers for it so I went in expecting a whole cohesive movie with brand-new content, and boy was I wrong. The film was an hour and a half long of which an hour of it was the film recapping the last two episodes of season two and thirty minutes of revealing a sneak peek of the new season which I can’t lie, was a disappointment, especially since people paid to see this film. Let’s get into what I thought of the movie and my verdict on if it’s worth going to the theatres to watch or not.
Now, seeing the last two episodes of season two on the big screen was a sight to behold. Watching the battle between Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Uzui (the sound pillar) vs. the upper 6 demons, Daki and Gyutaro in the theater was an experience that can’t be described. There’s nothing to say except for the fact that it looked absolutely stunning. After the recap of the fight as well as Daki and Gyutaro’s backstory, the film cuts to all the upper six demons being summoned to the infinity castle by the king of all demons, Muzan. Seeing Douma and Akaza again was interesting because of the banter they had as well as the dynamic between them. The reveal of upper moon four, Hantengu, and upper moon five, Gyokko was pretty cool as well. The debut of upper moon one, Kokushibo, was the most interesting part of the film in my opinion. I personally believe that he’s the best demon in terms of character along with having the best design out of all the demons.
Two other important things happen in the film: the first is a flashback of Yoriichi, the man who almost cut off Muzan’s head, he was the first breath user and the creator of sun breathing. The second important event is when Tanjiro gets transported to the swordsmith’s village to fix his chipped sword from the fight with Daki and Gyutaro. Here we meet Mitsuri Kanroji, the love pillar, who we’ve seen before at the end of season one, and the film ends with the reveal of Muchiro Tokito, the mist pillar.
Demon slayer season 3: The Swordsmith Village Arc starts airing on April 9th and the movie is only in theaters for a limited time. To answer the question of whether this movie is worth spending money to watch, the short answer would be no. However, if you are someone who wants to watch the last two episodes of season two on the big screen in all its glory, then I would say this film is probably something you will enjoy. The most enjoyable parts of the movie is all the new content that’s revealed which was only thirty minutes of the entire showtime. My overall verdict however is that you’re better off waiting till April 9th to watch season 3 air weekly. Having watched the film, I’m genuinely excited to see the continuation of the Swordsmith Village Arc.
